Hypnotherapy in Addiscombe, Shirley, Croydon
Janice Champion clinical hypnotherapist based in Croydon, Surrey offers hypnotherapy in a calm and safe environment to enable positive changes and improve your life.
The unconscious mind is the seat of all our emotions and directs nearly all our behaviour. All of our memories are stored there, where they continue to have an effect on the way we live. Most of these memories are helpful, but sometimes they can become unhelpful or even harmful.
Hypnotherapy is a tool which enables us to communicate with the unconscious mind to change unwanted habits or behaviour. Clinical Hypnotherapy means using hypnosis to treat a variety of medical and psychological problems. It is estimated that over 85% will readily respond to clinical hypnotherapy. It has been proven to succeed where other, more conventional methods have not produced the desired results. The benefits are long lasting and usually permanent as well as completely natural and safe with no harmful side effects.

Hi, my name is Janice and I’ve been a hypnotherapist since 2006. I first discovered the amazing power of hypnotherapy when I went to a hypnotherapist myself to stop smoking. I started smoking as a rebellious teenager and I had tried so many times to give up. As someone who has always been into health and fitness, I was ashamed I couldn’t stop smoking. Now I know that habits are very hard to change with the conscious mind and willpower alone.
After this life changing experience (It was so freeing to finally be a non smoker), I went on to train at Imperial College London as a hypnotherapist and have had the privilege to help so many people with a therapy that has been around much longer than you’d think.
It is thought that the hypnotic state has been used for healing by all cultures throughout time. The use of hypnosis in medicine was endorsed by the British Medical Association back in 1955 and has been used by dentists and doctors ever since.
Even after all these years, I am still in awe at how effective hypnotherapy is. In hypnotherapy, a deep state of relaxation is achieved through focused attention. While in this trance-like state, the unconscious mind is highly receptive to new perspectives and ideas which safely bring about the changes you require.
We actually experience trance-like states naturally everyday on a regular basis, for example when we are daydreaming, laying comfortably in bed and about to fall asleep or when engrossed watching a good film or reading a book.
"I feel so much calmer since our appointment. Thank you!"
Frequently asked questions
How much is it for a session?
£85 for an hour session (the first session is an hour and half)
£150 for stop smoking session as this is a one session only treatment
How does hypnotherapy work?
When your body is relaxed and your mind is calm your unconscious mind (sometimes called the subconscious mind) is more receptive to positive suggestion and creative thought. It is not an unfamiliar state as we experience this trance like state every day naturally – when falling to sleep, waking up from sleep, daydreaming or when engrossed in a good film or book.
What happens in the session?
To start with we will have a chat about what you would like help with, what is happening with you now, how long the issue has affected you and how you would prefer to feel, think or behave.
I teach a breathing technique to calm the nervous system which will help you cope better with stress and anxiety.
Then we will do some hypnotherapy – you sit in the chair with your eyes closed and relax whilst I give you positive suggestions based on what we have discussed and guide you to visualise a more positive future.
How many sessions will I need?
This depends on the issue and the severity. Anywhere between two and three sessions is usually what is needed as hypnotherapy is a quick strategy with lasting results. The amount of sessions would be discussed and agreed upon depending on your progress.
